The National Craft Council will hold the “Shilpa – 2008†handicrafts exhibition from November 23-26 at the BMICH. The exhibition will reflect the hereditary workmanship of handicraft artistes across the country and will be able to attract local and foreign buyers.
The handcraft artistes who have won first, second, third, merit awards in the regional level will showcase their creations at the exhibition.
Around 1000 handcraft products which have won artistic awards in this year have been selected to be displayed at the exhibition. Among them the handcrafts with the best artistic creations winning the Presidential Sawana awards and national awards for the first, second, third will be selected.
The NCC says that the exhibition will consist 200 trade stalls and a large scale handicrafts sales outlet will be set up to sell handicraft products for four days.
Sri Lanka Industrial Development Board will also assist the exhibition and apart from handicraft products different products manufactured by the small industries would also be available for visitors without the intervention of the middlemen.
