Indonesia earns over US$25,000 from handicraft sales in Cyprus fair

Jakarta (ANTARA News) – Indonesia earned S$25,737 from handicraft sales at the Cyprus International Fair (CIF) which took place in Cyprus from May 11 to 20, 2007, the Indonesian Embassy in Rome said in press statement made available to ANTARA here on Saturday.

Indonesia was represented at the fair by four small- and medium-size enterprise (SME) companies that displayed their products in Hall 9 of the CIF.

The Indonesian SME companies that took part in the exhibition were Ashahi Furniture & Handicraft, Deli Craft Koleksi, Kechiti Art Antique and CV Kerindo.

The Indonesian stand was visited by many buyers from neighboring countries such as Turkey besides local buyers, the statement said.

At the exhibition, a businessman from Cyprus also put on display Indonesian products such as furniture made from wood, rattan and water hyacinth.

The Indonesian products were able to compete with those from China, Vietnam and the Philippines.

The Indonesian Embassy in Rome suggested that Indonesian companies should also take part in the next exhibition scheduled to be held in 2008.

In order to achieve success in the next exhibition, the embassy suggested that Indonesian firms cooperate with the National Agency for Export Development (NAFED).

CIF is an annual event and this year`s fair was the 32nd held so far. It was attended by 350 participating companies from 30 countries including the United States, South Africa, India, Italy, Kuwait, Malaysia, Egypt, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Syria, Greece and Indonesia.(*)
