Jharkhand plans to patent organic silk

RANCHI: Aiming to give a boost to the state’s economy, the Jharkhand government is planning to patent the variety of organic silk available here.

The Sericulture and Handicraft Department has approached the Central Silk Board (CSB) to work towards getting the organic silk patented. The government believes that patenting of organic silk will give a fillip to the state’s economy

“If organic silk is patented, then the state will emerge as a big exporter,” Dhirendra Kumar, special secretary of the Sericulture and Handicraft Department, said

on Thursday.
