Handicraft can bring prosperity to poors

HANDICRAFT IS a one of the major sources of self-employment and its relevancy has increase in the age when the employment in government sector is reducing. The handicraft can bring prosperity in the society and it is an effective and respectable medium for the weaker section to earn their livelihood.
The district magistrate Dr Hariom while inaugurating state level marketing workshop on handicraft in the city organised by development commissioner handicraft, Ministry of Textiles, stated these views here.
He said artisan credit card had been introduced for the weaver’s community and handicraft. He expressed his concern over non-cooperating attitude of the banks in providing loan to the artisan for promoting their own business. He advised the bank officials to change their attitude in providing the loans to the artisan and weavers.
Delivering his views on this occasion, Life Insurance Corporation of India officer PC Srivastav highlighted the importance of artisan credit card scheme. Director of the central zone of handicraft Alok Ranjan Chaudhary said 18 lakh youths in the state have got employment through handicraft and in year 2004- 5, the total export was Rs 17276.71 crore.
