Rwanda: Minicom Donates FRW 1 Million to Women

The Ministry of Commerce, Industry, Investment Promotion, Cooperatives and Tourism (MINICOM) has donated Frw1 million to women handicraft and weaving business association in the Province.
The donation was delivered by the Secretary General in the ministry, Justin Nsengiyumva during his visit to Abahuje cooperative handicraft project in Byimana Sector, Ruhango District, on October13.
“The ministry is committed to supporting this project as a way of empowering women in development. Today I bring a cheque worth one million Francs which the State Minister Vincent Karega had promised earlier on,” Nsengiyumva said.

Nsengiyumva cautioned the women to use the money appropriately and encouraged them to invest and save more money to boost their business and their welfare.
He added: “This project is outstanding in the government’s vision of development and each of you can earn at least Frw600,000 as profit if you make this a full time job and become committed to the project.”
In an interview with The New Times, Nsengiyumva said that the ministry will provide financial support in training and it is targeting more than 850 women in weaving business by the year 2009.The District Mayor, François Byabarumwanzi, agreed to support the project and get more women in Ruhango trained in the project. He also urged the women to plant sisal to have sufficient supply of the raw material for their weaving business.
