Website for artisans at jewel exhibition

Fulfilling a long-pending demand of artisans, a website for Tamilnadu Handicraft Development Corporation Ltd (THDC) was launched by State Electricity Minister Arcot N Veerasamy today at the inauguration of Jewel Expo 2006 at the Poompuhar showroom.
The portal www.tamilnadu handicrafts.com would help increase the sales of handicraft products in both the domestic as well as abroad markets, thus finding the markets for the local artisans, said D Rajendran, chairman and managing director, THDC chairman at a press conference today.
He further said that the next step would be launching e-shopping facility which would go a long way in improving the sales of handicraft products of the State. A sales target of Rs 20 lakh has been set this year by the Corporation, he informed.
At the Jewel Expo 2006, a wide range of bangles, rings, bead chains, ear tops, necklace, haram, pendants and bracelets made of silver filigree, gold plated jewellery studded with precious and semiprecious stones are on display. The exhibition stocks exquisite jewellery from Tamilnadu, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Kerala, West Bengal, Maharastra and other States and will be open from 27 June to 15 July from 10 am to 8 pm, including Sunday. A special discount of 10 per cent is offered on all items in the exhibition.
