Tehran, March 30, 2009: An exhibition was held in Shiraz in early March to display the handicrafts of the region. Among the works presented were carpets, kilims and musical instruments.
Shiraz is the sixth most populous city in Iran and the capital of Fars Province. Shiraz is located in the southwest of Iran on the Rudkhaneye Khoshk seasonal river. Shiraz has a moderate climate and has been a regional trade center for more than a thousand years. Fars is one of the 30 provinces of Iran. It has an area of 122,400 km square. In 1996, this province had a population of 3.8 million people, of which 56.7% were registered as urban dwellers, 41.0% villagers, and 1.4% nomad tribes.
