SHISELWENI region handicraft groups will today have an exhibition at Nhlangano Park.
The exhibition, expected to begin at 9 a.m, will be on different handicraft products from the whole region and it has been made possible by the ministry of commerce, industry and trade’s handicraft section as well as other sections that deal with small businesses such as the Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Unit.
Assistant Information Officer Sarah Ndzinisa said the exhibition was aimed at eradicating poverty in the region, considered to be one of the most poverty-stricken regions of the country.
“This exhibition is a first of its kind and the ministry looks forward to hosting such events every month to give an opportunity to other handicraft producers to sell their products,” she said.
Ndzinisa said this was a new concept and the Shiselweni region had been identified to be the trial region for the idea the ministry believes would also be taken to other regions.
She said the ministry has invited many organisations that deal with SMEs in the country from business training consultancies to financial institutions. “The event, which will last for two days, ends on Friday and the ministry invites the public to come in their numbers to support our own small businesses,” she added.
Ndzinisa said during the same event, the ministry would launch a home-made vaseline project under Shiselweni II constituency. She said the project was initiated by the constituency’s member of parliament Benedict Xaba, who is also minister of health.
“There are five chiefdoms under this constituency that are currently involved in the project and it is expected to also reach the other chiefdoms,” she added.
