National level crafts mela in Sonepat

Sonepat: A nine-day national level crafts exhibition named as ‘Sonprastha crafts mela’ will be held here from March 18 to encourage the handloom and handicraft sector of the region.
Apart from the host state, craftsmen from Madhya Pradesh, Uttranchal, Gujarat, Jammu and Kashmir, Tamil Nadu and Kerala will participate in the mela , Deputy Commissioner Neerja Shekhar told reporters here today.
As many as 23 committees have been formed to make the mela, the first of its kind in the district, a success, she said.
Cultural programmes, workshops, seminars and quiz contests will be organised as part of the mela, she said.
According to the Deputy Commissioner free boarding, lodging and transportation facilities will be provided to the participating craftsmen.
The mala is being organised in collaboration with the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA), Development Department of Haryana, and Handicrafts Department of the Central government, she added.
