The third Guangdong Folk Craftworks Exhibition kicked off in Guangzhou’s Lingnan Exhibition Center on Saturday. It’s jointly sponsored by the province’s Federation of Literary and Art Circles, Chinese Culture Promotion Society, and the Folk Artists Association.
The province in southern China is primarily known as an economic center but has enhanced its reputation in the field of culture by preserving local heritage. The folk craftworks exhibition was inaugurated in 2004.
Held every two years, the event has fostered the enthusiasm of local folk artists. And several endangered pieces of art have been discovered and protected.
Over 1000 folk art treasures from 20 Guangdong cities are on display. The exhibits include sculpture, paper cutting, embroidery, costumes and porcelain.
Sponsors have opened the exhibition for free in the hope it will encourage more people to visit.
