Fiji to showcase handicraft in USA

Fiji Times, Fiji
Update: 4:17PM Fiji for the first time will showcase its handicraft products in the United States of America at the California Gift Show.

The show is scheduled to take place
from July 18 to 21 in Los Angeles, California.
A Department of Information press statement said the Fiji Trade Commission in Los Angeles has been working with the Fiji Trade and Investment Bureau and the Fiji Arts Council in organising Fijis participation.

Trade Commissioner Ilisoni Vuidreketi said: It is a grand opportunity for Fijis small and medium enterprise (SME) handicraft producers and exporters to promote their products directly to buyers from all over the USA.”

The California Gift Show is attended by US trade buyers and importers such as chain stores, department stores, specialty retail, gift stores, home and office decorative accessory, bed/bath/linen stores, bridal, craft & hobby, gallery & museum, wholesaler/distributors, premium incentive buyers and souvenir shops.

The buyers at such Shows are said to always look for new or different exotic, natural and traditional handmade products and Fiji should be an attractive new supplier in the market.

The US Trade Representative office in Washington DC confirmed that handicraft exports from Fiji qualify for duty free entry into the USA under the US governments Generalised System of Preferences (GSP).

The show will have more than 1200 exhibitors from around the world and is open to the trade buyers and importers only, so its a very good forum for Fiji handicraft producers and exporters to establish business networking with US buyers and importers.
