A very successful Land Cookery and Handicraft day was held in Guyra on Tuesday March 11 with representatives from most CWA branches across the Northern Tablelands group represented. This is an annual event held every year to compete for prizes and the honour of representing the Group at the State Conference in May.
Our local branch is lucky to have facilities to enable this event to be held in Guyra, with the event shared between the Uniting and Anglican Halls. In conjunction with the cooking and handicraft competitions, the Northern Tablelands Group Meeting was also held. President of Guyra CWA, Heather Starr, is also the Group President and presided over the meeting, which saw branches from Kellys Plains/Dangersleigh in the south to Liston on the Qld border in the north present their annual report.
Judging of the entries took place over the course of the morning with a great many entries in both the craft and cooking sections. The winning entries now go on to represent the group at the State conference which is being held this year in Tweed Heads in early May.
Locally, Ben Lomond branch has five members who will now go on to the next level in the cooking section, as well as success in the handicraft section. The champion exhibit was a stumpwork picture by Judith Wilford from Guyra CWA.
Local CWA members were kept busy catering for the day, providing morning teas and lunches for over 50 delegates.
