Kuala Belait – A Three-day handicraft, stitching and cookery workshop for converts in Belait District was launched yesterday morning at the Belait Dakwah Unit Office.

The workshop aimed to provide support for new converts in the district to be proactive, innovative and creative in producing quality handicrafts as a means to elevate their family’s socio-economic standards.

The three-day workshop was launched by the head of Islamic and Guidance Conservation Section from the Dakwah Islamiah Centre, Ustaz Hj Abdul Aziz Hj Abdul Kahar. Thirty participants took part in the workshop.

In her welcoming remarks, the head of Dakwah Unit, Hjh Siti Rahmah Hj Julaihi, said the workshop was the first of its kind organised by the Islamic and Guidance Conservation Section.

Hjh Siti Rahmah said, to begin with, proper guidance and support to newly convert were currently being conducted at the prayer house of the government barrack in Lorong Tiga Selatan Seria, under the supervision of the Dakwah Islamiah Centre.

Meanwhile, the guest of honour said such efforts to guide new converts to become more proactive were much welcomed, as youths will be the prime movers of the nation.

“And because of that, the Dakwah Islamiah Centre conducts such workshops to promote traditional skills of the older generation, and to preserve and put into practice those skills, so that they would not become extinct as we embrace modernisation.”

He hoped participants will benefit in many ways from the three-day workshop. — Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
