San Francisco – Getting close to nature in its latest collections of guest towels, needlepoint and linen pillows, manufacturer Peking Handicraft is showcasing leaf designs against solid backgrounds.

One component features fern leaf designs by artist D.L. Rhein set against white. These looks are available both on 14-inch-by-14-inch linen pillows, set to retail for $50 each, and on 14-by-22 guest towels, $50 for the set of four. (more…)

Govt to conduct second census of handicraft artisans

New Delhi, Dec 20 (PTI) Government has decided to conduct the second census of handicrafts artisans to find out their economic status and use the inputs in policy making.
“The second census will cover 20 per cent of districts every year to generate national level estimates of the handicraft sector,” Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) Sanjay Agarwal told PTI. (more…)

Iranian handicrafts exhibition kicks off in Madrid

TEHRAN — The second edition of the annual exhibition of Iran’s handicrafts entitled “Isfahan, the Color of Sky” opened at the headquarters of Quetzal de las Indias in Madrid on December 17.

Quetzal de las Indias is a Spanish company that seeks to introduce people to different cultures via handicrafts from all over the world.

The one-month exhibit is showcasing carpets, tile art, engraving, and several other kinds of Iranian handicrafts. (more…)

FORMER First Lady Imelda R. Marcos is giving out herself. The wife of the late strongman Ferdinand Marcos has been made into a doll fashioned out of waste corn husks.

“I personally designed a doll of her replica, wearing the Philippine [baro't saya] terno and sporting her hairdo. I sent her some samples,” said Rue Ramas, president of the Corn Husk Association of the Philippines (Chap) in General Santos City.

Rs 316.81-cr marketing scheme for handicraft artisans gets CCEA nod

New Delhi, Dec 13 Handicraft artisans will get a Rs 316.81-crore marketing support during the 11the Plan period under a new policy cleared by the government today.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved the ‘Marketing Support and Services Scheme’ for these artisans.

The money would be used for domestic and international marketing and publicity of the products of these artisans, the Union Finance Minister, Mr P Chidambaram told reporters here. (more…)

NEW DELHI, Dec. 13: The government today cleared a proposal by the textiles ministry for implementation of ‘marketing support and services scheme’ for handicraft sector and its artisans.
The scheme will have a budgetary provision of Rs 316.81 crore, which would also meet outstanding and committed liabilities under the old scheme of marketing support and services, the finance minister, Mr P Chidambaram, said at the end of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) meeting, chaired by the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh. The Lakeview Handicraft Club of Sun City invites you to join us and take part in our activities. If you like to create crochet articles, knitted baby clothes, handmade greeting cards, beaded Christmas ornaments or other crafts, we are sure you would find our club a pleasant place to spend a morning.

As the festive season approaches, so are handicraft fairs.

Fatuma Noor has been selling weaved products in most open-air markets in Nairobi, including the famous Maasai Market at the Globe Roundabout and the annual Christmas Craft Fair at the Ngong Racecourse.

Five years ago, she decided to add to her calendar an exclusive kind of craft fair, the Bazaare Bazaar in Karen. She has since landed orders that have kept her busy and the women groups she represents for an entire month.

“You get orders from lodges, hotels and camps,” she says. (more…)
