Srinagar, Nov 21: In connection with the cooperative week the Industrial Cooperative Employees’ Union, Handicraft Department Wednesday held a provincial level seminar at Miskeen Bagh here.
Farooq Ahmad Shah holding additional charge of joint registrar Cooperatives was presiding over the seminar.
A large number of artisans, cooperative employees, registrars and deputy registrars cooperatives Kashmir province participated in the seminar.
In his inaugural speech union president M Ashraf Wani made the participants aware of the cooperative movement, merging of the Induscos with the handicrafts department and the various artisan schemes.
He said the union was trying hard to eradicate the role of intermediaries for the welfare of the artisan community.
Many other speakers including Ali Muhammad Bhat, Abdul Aziz Ganai and Abdul Rahim Sofi stressed the need for restoration of the past status of Induscos. They also stressed that for uplift of poor artisan members of the cooperatives by providing hassle free financial and marketing support to cooperative handicraft sector.
It was the general opinion of the gathering that the Induscos must be manned by able officers of the cooperatives “as it is purely a technical job and desired that a full time joint registrar be posted to ensure implementation of programmes and speeches.â€
In his concluding speech Shah assured the participants that the problems highlighted in the seminar will be bought under the notice of authorities to redress the same.
It was decided that another meeting of the cooperative artisans would be held on November 29 at Miskeen Bagh Complex, here.
Meanwhile, the participants expressed grief and sorrow over the demise of the mother of A Rahman Malik and Ali Muhammad.
