CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC) has drawn up plans to convert part of Island Grounds in the city into an eco park with space for eco walk and a food court to promote culinary tourism.

Giving details of the initiative, TTDC Managing Director M. Rajaram told The Hindu that it has appointed a consultant to help create a hub for entertainment to host traditional south Indian cultural programmes.

Efforts are on to conduct exhibitions highlighting the lesser-known tourist spots in the State and to promote herbal medicine.

Steps would be taken to hold handicraft exhibitions with the help of women self-help groups.

Local Administration Minister M.K. Stalin is expected to open the park in the presence of Tourism Minister N. Suresh Rajan.
