HCM CITY — Viet Nam’ s Handicrafts and Craft Villages Show opened last Friday in HCM City as part of a series of activities the city has been creating annually to promote indigenous handicrafts, textile, garments, footwear and food.

The fourth of its kind since the showroom’s launch in 2004, the show includes quality exporters of handicrafts and processed woodwork from the Mekong Delta, and southeastern and northern provinces.

The showroom displays the skills and talents of local craftsmen and product designers who have played a large part in adding value to handicraft exports.

Addressing the opening, HCM City’s People’s Committee vice chairwoman, Nguyen Thi Hong, said the showroom was a reliable venue that provides product and business information for potential investors.

“Besides beefing up materials base, human resources training and financial management, the handicrafts sector should pay more attention to adequate information about foreign markets,” she added.

Hong said she hoped the showroom would receive support from the Vietnamese embassies abroad and commercial counsellors so more business opportunities for local firms could be created.

Over the past three years, the showroom at 92-96 Nguyen Hue Street has attracted tens of thousands of visitors who have signed 60 business contracts worth US$3.9 million during exhibitions. —VNS
