Aimed to help improve the plight of the women, the training held from June 21-22 at the Garden Orchid Hotel is part of the year long plan/program mapped out by the local GAD whose mandate is to ensure gender equality or a gender-responsive society where women and men equally contribute to and benefit from development.

Climaco said the training provided single mothers the skills on making bags, stuffed toys, slippers and decors.

Bella Esperancilla of the City Agriculturist Office (CAO) spearheaded the training.

“This is the brainchild of the GAD Focal Point and we hope we can attain our vision of a gender responsive society,” Climaco stressed.

During the opening ceremonies Thursday, Climaco introduced Councilors-elect Lynette Abarro and Lilia Nuno, who will eventually be part of the GAD-Focal point when they assume office noon of June 30.

Climaco said the city’s GAD has lined up several trainings and activities for the whole year aimed to improve the plight of the women sector in the city.

A total of 32 single mothers, mostly employees of the local government participated in the two–day training. (SEC)
