Ludhiana, May 23: The handicraft artisans from Rajasthan have put up an exhibition at Nehru Sidhant Kendra. The exhibition offers an exclusive range of Jaipuri quilts, bed sheets, salwar suits, cotton ladies suit with hand block printing, khari gold printing, kundan, mirror and sequins work suits, and special Rajasthani ghaghra-choli.

The artisans have also put up a special range of Mughal-style hand painting, Rajasthani fabrics and dress materials in attractive, eye-catching colors and designs. The exhibition has been organised under the banner of Govind Hath Karga Vastra Utpadak Sehkari Samiti, Jaipur.

The incharge of the exhibition, Champurkar Mangal, said that such shows are organised by the Central government regularly at the metros. The handicraft artisans have constituted a co-operative society that has 21 members, who further employ people to work for them.

The artisans organise exhibitions in various other cities themselves, said Mangal. “We get excellent response in Punjab and also Maharashtra,” added Vasudev Saraf. “Handicraft requires lot of hard work and skill. With mechanization, it is difficult for this art to survive. The government should provide more relief and exemptions to artistes.”
