Jamshedpur, May 29: The case of Santosh K. Gupta’s death after falling from the giant wheel at the Disneyland Art and Handicraft Mela on Sunday took a new turn today as post-mortem reports revealed he was not drunk.

Contrary to claims made by mela organisers stating Gupta was inebriated at the time of accident, the post-mortem report states the victim had not consumed even a drop of alcohol, proving that organisers had made false claims to save their skin. (more…)

WONOSARI (KR) - Sentra kerajinan Patung Bobung, Patuk Gunungkidul, kembali bergairah. Selain permintaan lokal membaik, pesanan dari luar negeri juga mengalir. Setahun pasca musibah gempa, kini kondisinya mulai membaik. Bantuan dari Dinas Perindustrian Perdagangan dan Koperasi (Disperindagkop) Propinsi DIY, membantu pemulihan sektor industri ini.

“Alhamdulillah kini sudah berangsur pulih. Bantuan alat dari Disperindagkop cukup melegakan para perajin, karena akibat bencana gempa banyak alat yang rusak akibat tertimpa reruntuhan bangunan. Pesanan dari Bali juga sudah mulai berdatangan, bahkan pesanan dari Belanda dan Australia juga sudah dikirim,” kata Wagimin, pemilik kerajinan patung di Bobung, Jumat (25/5). (more…)

Jamshedpur, May 28: The accidental death of Santosh K. Gupta, who fell from a giant wheel at Disneyland Art and Handicraft Mela last evening, has raised questions about the safety of visitors at such fairs.

Not only the giant wheel, but other swings are also ill-equipped to provide adequate safety for revellers. Most of the swings do not have safety belts for protection. (more…)

Indonesia earns over US$25,000 from handicraft sales in Cyprus fair

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia earned S$25,737 from handicraft sales at the Cyprus International Fair (CIF) which took place in Cyprus from May 11 to 20, 2007, the Indonesian Embassy in Rome said in press statement made available to ANTARA here on Saturday.

Indonesia was represented at the fair by four small- and medium-size enterprise (SME) companies that displayed their products in Hall 9 of the CIF.

The Indonesian SME companies that took part in the exhibition were Ashahi Furniture & Handicraft, Deli Craft Koleksi, Kechiti Art Antique and CV Kerindo.

The Indonesian stand was visited by many buyers from neighboring countries such as Turkey besides local buyers, the statement said. (more…)

Nepal’s export of handicraft goods fell by 4.65 percent in the first three quarters of the current fiscal year ending in mid-July, handicraft associations said in Kathmandu Thursday.

Data compiled by the Federation of Handicraft Associations of Nepal (FHAN) showed that 2.02 billion Nepali rupees (some 31 million US dollars) worth of handicraft were exported in the first nine months of 2006/07, as against 2.12 billion rupees (some 32 million dollars) in the same period of last fiscal year.

The dip is attributed largely to slump in export of pashmina products, metal craft and handmade paper, which together contributed 41 percent of all handicraft exports from Nepal. (more…)

Hundreds of students, including unit presidents and general secretaries participated in the conference. The annual function aims at promoting and preserving the culture and tradition of the Angami tribe. Among the sixteen tribes recognised in Nagaland, Angamis are one of the biggest tribes and forms a large chunk of the population.

Handicraft exports are on the decline

Kolkata, May 18: The exports of handicrafts from the state has shown a declining trend in spite of the fact that the region is rich in rural handicrafts.

Exports in the year 2005-06 were worth Rs 301.3 crore only, whereas, national exports were worth Rs 14, 526.85 crore during the same period.

The state has not been able to keep pace with the increase in exports at the national level. (more…)
