Handicraft not only plays a great role in recognizing nation’s culture, development and progress but also in encouraging the artists.

Largely, developing countries depend on small enterprises especially handicrafts to overcome their economic crisis.

Yemen, in the Arab region has prominent handicraft industry. Expert and skillful craftsmenship are behind such beautiful masterpieces.

But Yemeni handicraft industry has not gained sufficient attention of the consumers, especially in this age of globalization.

The handicraft industry is lacking proper preservation effort by the Government.

The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) has offered assistance to preserve some of those handicraft industries. An agreement was signed with Urban Cultural Heritage Strategy and Development Program (UCHP) to establish two centers for preserving handicraft industries.
