Resolution of Kashmir dispute: Javed Burki proposes trade arrangement under SAFTA

NEW DELHI: Close on the heels of the 14th SAARC summit, a noted Pakistani economist has proposed a regional trade arrangement under SAFTA that might go on to “settle the Jammu and Kashmir dispute between India and Pakistan”.

A paper authored by Shahid Javed Burki for the United States Institute of Peace (USIP) has estimated that a regional trade arrangement could lead to a 9.5 percent annual growth rate in both parts of Kashmir. (more…)

Iran’s station at the 25th International Tourism Exhibition in Gothenburg Sweden was reportedly among the most visited booths at the event.

The booth highlighted vacation packages and services provided by Iranian travel agencies as well as traditional crafts from various Iranian handicraft galleries. The display also had model replicas of Iran’s most popular tourist attractions.

More than 2,000 tourism companies participated during the four-day exhibition which began a week ago and ended Sunday.

State Minister for Industry and Investment Promotion, Vincent Karega on March 23, officiated at the inauguration of Rwamagana Women’s hand crafts centre situated in the town centre.

Japan Agency for Development and Emergency (JADE), which participates in relief and reconstruction activities in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, is conducting a project to help earthquake victims become self-dependant.

One batch of Kashmiri women affected by earthquake has concluded training in handicrafts and embroidery at JADE’s Muzzafarabad center.

JADE sources informed that this batch has proved its embroidery skills in Kashmiri handicraft. (more…)

Iran’s central city of Yazd has opened its first tourism and handicraft exhibition as part of an ongoing effort to introduce Iranian culture to visitors.

A wide range of handicrafts will be on display, including a variety of hand-woven rugs, pottery and traditional clothes.

Yazd’s famous tourist attractions and ancient historical sites will also be highlighted in promotional posters and brochures, IRNA has reported. (more…)
