Last year, an ex-military serviceman launched a handicraft workshop, which provided part-time jobs to peoples in costal area of Hau Loc in central Thanh Hoa Province.

When Pham Thanh Hoi saw abundance of water hyacinth in the region, he decided to start this workshop to provide employment for himself and others in the region. (more…)

The International Women’s Association arranged the first exhibition for Yemeni and foreign handicrafts on Thursday at the Yemeni Education and Relief organization YERO, in an effort to help charitable associations in Yemen. Many Yemeni and foreign organizations, businesswomen, and children from theYERO participated in the exhibition.

Gillian Roberts, member of IWA, said it is the first time such an exhibition for handicrafts was arranged. The preparations for the exhibition took a month-and-a-half, for things such as inviting different organizations, embassies, schools and charitable foundations to participate in the show, Roberts added. SHAH ALAM, Feb 22 (Bernama) — The National Craft Institute’s (IKN) move to initiate the Handicraft Service Scheme, in an effort to produce diploma and certificate-level graduates in handicraft-making, has begun to bear fruit.

The reason? These IKN graduates are in great demand by local handicraft producers who need the innovation and creativity of these skilled individuals.

Before being accepted into IKN, the applicants are required to undergo stringent screening. (more…)

Gulasal Idieva a master of the national handicraft from Gijduvon town of Bukhara region, invited to visit Munich, the capital of land of Bavaria, Germany.

Jahon news agency reported quoting Pravda Vostoka that the Uzbek master will present her sewed suzane from rags, dastarkhans, pannos. The exhibition will include forty span-new works. (more…)

The Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH.), a body set up for the promotion of handicrafts by the Government of India, gave various pre-budget suggestions and recommendations for the consideration of Ministry of Textiles and for onward submission to Ministry of Finance.

The suggestions given to Ministry of textiles and for the consideration of Ministry of Finance are as follows:-

1. Infrastructure status to India Expo Centre & Mart and covering project under the category of “Infrastructure Project” for the benefit under Section 80(IA). (more…)

Saras Mahotsav, an annual affair of the department of Rural Development to promote rural entrepreneurship, opened up at the Ambedkar Rally Maidan on Sunday.

Jharkhand is planning to introduce two varieties of special silk saris in the market to promote large-scale production of tussar.

After the devastating earthquake six years ago, the traditional artisans of the Kutch region of Gujarat are back in the fray with brighter prospects for their handicraft.

The earthquake hit around one lakh artisans in the remote areas of the Kutch district, considered the abode of many a handicraft. The earthquake had taken hundreds of lives. A majority of them were skilled artisans who made a living out of their skills handed down to them for generations in this semi-desert area. (more…)
