Promoting local handicraft at PEBATEK 2007

The Batik, Tenunan and Kraftangan Brunei Festival 2007 or PEBATEK 2007 is currently on at The Mall in Gadong and will end Feb 4. Organised by Syarikat AMF Mas Event Management Services, PEBATEK 2007 features some 38 vendors and more than 30 booths, selling items ranging from household decorations to clothing and toys.

The exhibition is also a showcase for local entrepreneurs to promote their handicraft and products. (more…)

Out of total non-oil exports, handicrafts and hand-woven rugs account for seven percent, sources informed.

During first nine months of current year (Iranian year ends March 20, 2007), kelims and hand-woven rugs accounted for most of the handicraft exports of the country.

During this period, precious stones, earthen ware and leather goods exports followed hand-woven rugs in the list of items exported from the country. (more…)

New Delhi, Jan 28 (IANS) Exquisite handloom and handicraft products from the northeast are on sale at the NEXPO 2007 here, a fair showcasing the excellence of artisans of the region.
Cane wine bottle holders from Tripura, traditional silk garments from Assam, bamboo handicrafts from Nagaland, handloom jackets from Arunachal Pradesh are among the hundreds of items displayed in the fair, which opened Saturday at the at the National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC) grounds. Ma’awiz (sarongs) is very famous traditional handicraft of the country. Earlier, it consisted of simple white cloth soaked in black dye called ‘neel’ and this cloth was known as ‘kisa’.

Kisa is worn by the people of rural area and was fashionable among bedouin tribes in past.Ma’awiz was named after Al-Saidoon, who was admired for producing beautiful ma’awiz.
This is available in three varieties namely assafi, al-kada and annaqshah.
During 70s, Cooperative Society for Weaving Industries was established in Rawdhah to promote ma’awiz in the region.

Along with the Centre, Bihar Government is going to support handicraft sector with the help of renewed energy, for which it would provide all possible assistance to the labourers.

State Government will also lend support to create market for their products and special training programmes will also be imparted to skilled labourers, sources added.

Government also revealed about the decision to prepare its own roadmap for the development of handicraft industries.

Patna, Jan 23. (PTI): Bihar’s NDA Government has decided to promote handicraft industries with renewed energy in collaboration with the Centre for which it would extend all-possible help to the artisans, the State Industries’ Department sources said.

“We have decided to promote handicraft industries with full vigour and renewed energy in collaboration with the Centre”, sources told PTI on Monday. (more…)

Handicraft exports fall 78 per cent

KARACHI: Pakistani handicrafts are losing their foothold in international markets.

There was a 78 per cent decline in handicraft exports during the first six months of the current fiscal, Federal Bureau of Statistics reported.

Handicraft exports fell to Rs74 million a fall of Rs260 million compared to Rs334 million worth of handicrafts exported during July-December 2005-2006.

A zero figure questioned the future of Pak handicrafts as December 2006 saw no exports made under this head a 100 per cent decline compared to Rs52 million worth of handicrafts exported in December 2005 (more…)

The Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA) and the Viet Nam Co-operatives Alliance on Monday held a seminar on improving designs of handicraft products and finding new export markets for products. Japanese experts also helped local companies and co-operatives analyse methods to find new markets as well as design handicraft products in export markets.

India : Kashmir handicraft expo kicks off in Delhi

Dignitaries of several countries visited the Kashmir handicraft expo which displayed Kashmir’s famed handicrafts in capital.

Exhibition, which will continue till February end, displayed carpets, shawls and several other items.

Government is taking measures to boost handicraft exports and achieve the target of Rs1,000 crore during this fiscal, Rs300 crore more than the figure for the last financial year.
