Tien Giang invests in handicraft villages

Tien Giang provincial People’s Committee has approved a project to develop infrastructure in 11 craft villages.

Under the project, the Mekong Delta province will invest 26.7 billion VND (1.7 million USD) to upgrade road, electricity and sewage systems in the craft villages. (more…)

Asosiasi Eksportir Pengrajin Handicraf Indonesia (Asephi) Solo, mentargetkan kerajian handicraft di Soloraya akan masuk pasar internasional pada tahun 2007. Hal itu didasarkan pada banyaknya potensi limbah kayu sertifikasi di Soloraya, terutama di Kabupaten Wonogiri dan Sukoharjo.

Demikian disampaikan anggota Badan Pengurus Cabang (BPC) Asephi Solo, Sugeng Saryanto, saat ditemui Espos di sela-sela pelatihan teknik pemanfaatan limbah kayu sertifikasi di Dusun Ngebrak Kidul, Kelurahan Giriwoyo, Kecamatan Giriwoyo, Wonogiri, Kamis (14/12). Pelatihan tersebut dilaksanakan bekerjasama dengan Perhimpunan Untuk Studi dan Pengembangan Ekonomi dan Sosial (Persepsi) Wonogiri, dan melibatkan 20 peserta dari Kecamatan Giriwoyo, Wonogiri dan Kecamatan Weru, Sukoharjo. India will achieve $125-bn export target, says survey

NEW DELHI, DEC 17: Reflecting all-round optimism, an overwhelming 85% of the respondents of a Ficci survey felt that the export target of $125 billion would be met in the current fiscal.
“The results of the survey indicate the country is moving towards a phase of stabilisation in export growth,” the chamber said in a statement here.

The high export growth rates in the last few months were likely to be maintained during the remaining part of the year with a low probability of surprises on the upside, the survey said. (more…)

Yogyakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and his entourage on Thursday visited an earthenware and ceramics industry center at Kasongan village, Kasihan sub district, Bantul district, in Yogyakarta.

At the center, the president held a dialog with scores of local craftsmen whose work places were destroyed by a powerful earthquake last May 27.

The dialog was held to give the craftsmen an opportunity to tell the president about their problems directly so that the government could help them find a way out (more…)

Vice President of the Viet Nam Association of Traditional Craft Villages, Luu Duy Dan, spoke to (Vietnam Economic Times) about handicraft villages and the WTO.

The government has high lighted the conservation and promotion of traditional craft villages in its policy. What are your thoughts on that?

Up to 73 per cent of the country’s population live in rural areas. In some localities, the figure gets as high as 90 per cent. But the real problem lies in the fact that their cultivated land is dwindling. In the last six years, some 300,000 ha of cultivated land was used for other purposes. As a result, about 3.7 million farmers don’t have land to cultivate. This requires us to promote the development of traditional handicrafts to generate jobs for farmers whose land had been revoked for other reasons. (more…)
