ISTANBUL – Turkish Daily News
An exhibition, entitled Tolerance, organized by three significant names from traditional Turkish handicrafts — Dr. Münevver Üçer, Sıtkı (Usta) Olçar and Souadad Kandemir — is now open at the Museum of Turkish and Islamic Arts, İbrahim PaÅŸa Palace. The exhibition is sponsored by the Demirören Companies Group and Ramada Plaza Istanbul Hotel
Due to the fact that 2007 was declared the Year of Mevlana by UNESCO, carpet and tile designer Kandemir, a graduate of Mimar Sinan University, produced oil paintings featuring Mevlana and his doctrine. Olçar, known as a master of Turkish ceramics, painted designs on tiles. Üçer, a member of Mimar Sinan University and a significant artist in the Turkish art of gilding, applied this skill to her pieces. These three artists, who have been involved in traditional Turkish handicrafts for many years, now present their works of art in the exhibition Tolerance. An opening ceremony for the exhibition was held last week with the participation of distinguished guests from the world of art and business.
Tolerance can be visited through Nov. 30.
