The Taiwan Handicrafts Park in Tsaotun will open a craft festival which will bring about 50 communities with their unique handicrafts throughout Taiwan.

The festival will begin on December 2 and will continue for three days.

A straw woven centipede of 260-meter long with 72-section centipede has been created by the National Taiwan Craft Research Institute as the symbol of this year’s festival which represents the rich heritage and unique traditional handicrafts of Taiwan. (more…)

The government should give special emphasis on expansion of the country’s potential handicraft sector. As our handicraft sector has a good demand in the world market, it is needed to be developed creatively to feed the global market. And for this, there is no alternative to setting up an active design centre.

Besides, there must be a qualitative expansion of handicraft industries at home. This is necessary for strengthening their endeavours to attain further advancement.

Oddly, it is learnt that the design centre of Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation has not been funded to carry on research on design. But this design centre once was active and met the thirst for improvement of the weavers (more…)

HA NOI — South Korea-based Topvina Corporation has signed a 40-year contract to lease the Tuan Chau Tourism Complex from the Au Lac Company.

Topvina plans to spend US$20 million over the next three years to upgrade the resort’s existing facilities, and build a new sports complex at sea and several high-grade seafood restaurants. (more…)

RANCHI: Aiming to give a boost to the state’s economy, the Jharkhand government is planning to patent the variety of organic silk available here.

The Sericulture and Handicraft Department has approached the Central Silk Board (CSB) to work towards getting the organic silk patented. The government believes that patenting of organic silk will give a fillip to the state’s economy (more…)

Amman, Nov. 21 (Petra)—Jordanians won two rewards in the field of handicraft stone and ceramic mosaics in the first international conference on Tourism and Handicrafts in Moslem Countries, which ecently wrapped up meetings in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Artist Ibrahim Merei, member of Jordanian Handicraft Association, won the reward of creative ceramic mosaic , while his colleague and member of the JHA Ziad Aziz Ottoman won the reward of stone mosaic. (more…)

The Moroccan government has adopted new measures for the promotion of handicrafts and trade, Aujourd’hui Le Maroc quotes Industry and Trade Minister Eddine Mazouar as saying on Tuesday (November 14th).

“The measures include the creation of 16 accounting management centres as of 2007 and the coming into effect of a law promoting the establishment of co-operatives,” the minister said. A new health system for traders and craftsmen will also be introduced. (more…)
