Brazil : Bamboo handicraft industry employs 2000 people

Project titled ‘Development of the Cycle of Bamboo in Brazil’, coordinated by Bambuzeria Cruzeiro do Sul has provided employment and livelihood to more than 2,000 people, who now receive over a minimum wage per month.

At the moment, at least 30 cooperatives of producers are working with the raw material, producing from coat hangers to Japanese style fences.

Brazil has native varieties of Bamboo locally named carnauba, cana-brava, taboca, taquara, taquari and taquaracu, which are still little explored for handicraft. (more…)

Marshallese Handicraft on Display this Weekend

Unique and beautiful Marshallese handicraft will be featured at the Micronesian Cultural Festival this Saturday, October 28. Francyne “Mattu” Wase of the Marshallese Committee wants to get the word out about this special event.

The Festival will be held at the Hawaii Convention Center from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Marshallese handicraft, which will be for sale, will be displayed in the Maui Room 316. (more…)

GUWAHATI: The Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE) through cluster development approach is planning to set a common brand for handloom and handicraft products of the region, IIE director K Ahmed said here on October 25.

NEW DELHI: The Indian handicrafts industry is changing rapidly as there is a growing trend where handicrafts are looked upon as utility products and not just a decorative and gift items, as per Rakesh Kumar, executive director, Exports Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH).

The industry, of which annual production is estimated at around Rs 50,000 crore, provides direct employment to more than 6 million artisans and craftsmen. (more…)

The Ministry of Commerce, Industry, Investment Promotion, Cooperatives and Tourism (MINICOM) has donated Frw1 million to women handicraft and weaving business association in the Province.

The donation was delivered by the Secretary General in the ministry, Justin Nsengiyumva during his visit to Abahuje cooperative handicraft project in Byimana Sector, Ruhango District, on October13. (more…)
