Artisans from the North of Brazil are transforming products like seeds, shells and fruit pits in bio-jewels. The pieces, which receive fine finishing, but are made from products of the forest, are sold in the internal and external markets.

São Paulo - With talent and creativity, artisan Jander Cabral, 34 years old, transforms seeds, shells and pits, rustic raw materials of the Amazon forest, into jewels with fine finishing. They are the so-called bio-jewels, which have a high added value as they join in necklaces, bracelets, rings or earrings, the indigenous handicraft art and the precision of jewellery art. (more…)

Iran is going to set up five permanent exhibitions of handicrafts in foreign countries, informed Mojtaba Qasemi, Deputy head, Handicraft Department of Cultural Heritage and Tourism Organisation (CHTO).Speaking at the 5th Exhibition of Cultural Heritage and Tourism held in the northeastern capital Mashhad, Qasemi said that the department was considering implementation of measures like holding professional exhibits inside the country. Jeddah, Saudi Arabia (eTN) — Saudi Arabia will play host to the first international conference on tourism and handicrafts in Islamic countries. Saudi King Abdullah will inaugurate the conference slated for Nov 7-14 in Riyadh, the Saudi capital, according to Interior Prince Naif, who is chairman of the Supreme Commission for Tourism (SCT).

Organized in association with the Istanbul-based Research Center for Islamic History, Art and Culture (IRCICA), an affiliate of the 57-member Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), the conference will be accompanied by a number of activities including a handicraft show and a trade exhibition. Poor design and the lack of product promotion are two inherent weaknesses hampering, Vietnam’s handicraft industry, said Hoang Van Dung, vice chairman of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry

TEHRAN, Aug. 27 (MNA) – Afghanistan’s first Art and Culture Festival is scheduled to open at the Institute for the Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults (IIDCYA) in Tehran on August 30, the Cultural Heritage News agency (CHN) reported here on Saturday.

Beijing, Aug 28: Chinese archaeologists may have found one of the world`s oldest handicraft workshops, dating back more than 3,600 years, in central China`s Henan province, the state media reported.

Covering about 1,000 square meters, the workshop used turquoise to make elaborate and ornate works of art. The workshop was found in the village of Erlitou of Yanshi city and is part of the ruins of the imperial city belonging to the Xia dynasty (2100 b.C.-1600 b.C.), China`s earliest. (more…)

BANTUL (KR) - Permintaan berbagai jenis kerajinan bambu produk warga Dusun Sanggrahan Kowen II Timbulharjo Sewon, pasca gempa bumi meningkat tajam. Bahkan para perajin mengaku kewalahan memenuhi pesanan yang datang, terutama untuk jenis kerai, selintru dan lincak.

Sedangkan harga untuk seluruh jenis kerajinan juga naik seiring dengan naiknya harga bahan baku berupa bambu. ”Saat ini harga bambu naik sekitar 25 persen dari sebelum terjadi gempa.
Sehingga mau tidak mau kami juga harus menaikkan harga jual,’ kata Basir, salah seorang perajin bambu di Dusun Sanggrahan. (more…)

Photo forum-junkies from all around the Asian-Pacific region will gather in Ha Noi next month to take part in their third annual field trip.

Entitled Crossing Bridge, the company will gather 40 members from online photo forums in Viet Nam (www.photo.com.vn), Singapore (www.clubsnap.org), Indonesia (www.fotografer.net) and Malaysia (www .photomalaysia.com).

According to the trip’s host, who is also the Vietnamese photo forum founder, Pham Thanh Long, the seven-day trip aims to foster inter-forum friendship and cultural understanding, as well as strengthen the personal friendships of some photographers. (more…)
