(SGT-HCMC) The HCMC Service of Tourism and the city’s Handicraft and Wood Industry Association yesterday announced the second gift design contest called the Lotus Contest to look for best designs for making handicraft gifts for tourists.
Speaking at a press meeting to promote the contest, the association vice chairman Nguyen Thanh Minh said that the contest was open to all people. Contestants will submit their ideas to the organization board from August to October 31, and those with feasible ideas will be financed to make the sample products.
“We expect contestants to make products from local materials such as wood, porcelain, ceramic, paper and lacquer ware. The items should be of small sizes, making it easy for tourists to take the souvenir home,” he said.
The organization board will give 12 prizes to the winners with prizes worth a total VND90 million, in cash and tours to be announced on January 1, 2007.
The Lotus Contest is organized every two years. Last year, around 300 people submitted almost 150 entries to the contest.
