Twenty children ages 12 to 17 are taking part in a handicraft summer program at the Banquitas House of Culture in Orange Walk Town. The program is being conducted by MAMAS, ‘Mujeres Ayudando a Mujeres a Superarse’ or women helping women to succeed. We spoke with one of its members, Ofelia Novelo.

Ofelia Novelo:

“It is a group of about five ladies that have different skills and we decided to form a group by ourselves and teach others. We teach embroidery on Mondays, Tuesday Crochet, Wednesday, beadings and on Thursday handicraft. Right now it is summer and the children are on holiday we decided to teach the children, the course is for a month and a half we started about two weeks ago and it continues until the eighteenth of August. They expect to learn the embroidery the crochet the beading and the handicraft, they have done bracelets and chains and on the last day they will be having an exhibition to show off the things that they have done.”

The program ends on August eighteenth.
