Vietnam : VCCI digs out problems of handicraft industry

Survey conducted by Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) among foreign buyers to identify the problems facing the handicraft industry has highlighted poor designs and lack of product promotion as their two major hindrances.

Hoang Van Dung, Vice-Chairman of VCCI, informed that designs based on individual contracts from foreign buyers constitute 90 percent of export and lack their own creativity in absence of any incentive. (more…)

Poor design and the lack of product promotion are two inherent weaknesses hampering, Vietnam’s handicraft industry, said Hoang Van Dung, vice chairman of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

He said these two problems were highlighted in a survey conducted by the VCCI to get feedback from foreign importers. (more…)

HCMC announces handicraft gift design contest

(SGT-HCMC) The HCMC Service of Tourism and the city’s Handicraft and Wood Industry Association yesterday announced the second gift design contest called the Lotus Contest to look for best designs for making handicraft gifts for tourists.
Speaking at a press meeting to promote the contest, the association vice chairman Nguyen Thanh Minh said that the contest was open to all people. Contestants will submit their ideas to the organization board from August to October 31, and those with feasible ideas will be financed to make the sample products. (more…)

Bandar Seri Begawan - A group of scholars from the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) recently visited Pusat Bahagia and Pusat Ehsan as part of their community work project.

Twenty children ages 12 to 17 are taking part in a handicraft summer program at the Banquitas House of Culture in Orange Walk Town. The program is being conducted by MAMAS, ‘Mujeres Ayudando a Mujeres a Superarse’ or women helping women to succeed. We spoke with one of its members, Ofelia Novelo.

Tourism :RAM, travel agencies sign partnership agreement

According to both parties, the agreement will allow “an intense cooperation which will not exclude any major axis”.

Various issues of common interest are covered by the convention, touching on the institutional, judicial, ethical, and financial aspects of the tourism sector, in addition to training and communication.

By virtue of the agreement, RAM will support the technical and commercial training programmes organised by the travel agencies in favour of their staff. (more…)
